Betsy studied piano for three years while in grade school, but was rescued before too much damage was done. She picked up the guitar in the 60s in time to join the folk movement. Her influences include the three J's: Joan Baez, Judy Collins, and Joni Mitchell. Betsy played the guitar and sang for the Episcopal folk mass during her TCU days. She has sung in both traditional and folk choirs since the late 70s.

Young Betsy Betsy's other passion that she has nurtured since childhood is horses. She has trained and shown hunter/jumpers for almost 30 years. She was the North Texas Reserve Champion Jumper in 1976. Her current four-legged friend is Castalongshadow.
